Trip Information
Val d’Isere. France is the world favorite ski area of more people than any other area. It has unlimited backcountry skiing and fantastic series of lifts and buses to access all the skiable terrain. We will stay here the first week. Then, we will ski the “Valley of Powder” (back country ski, weather permitting) to our home at Plan Peisey, a typical small alpine village unaffected by the two nearby mega ski areas. We will stay at a ski-in, ski-out hotel which sits on a promontory and has a 270 degree view of the mountains. Every room has a mountain view. We will have 8 days of grand skiing at La Plagne or at Les Arcs. Join us with alpine, randonee or telemark skis. All three areas have some cross skiing if weather leads you to think of flat land skiing.

We will depart Seattle and fly to Copenhagen where we will stay for a day and half to sightsee before flying to Lyon, France.

Lyon is a UNESCO world Heritage site founded in 43BC by the Celtic, with the Romans gaining control in 16 BC. Lyon has many artifacts from the Roman times including amphitheaters. During this period, Lyon was established as a leader in the manufacture of pottery. During the reign of King Louis XI, the production of raw silk was begun in Lyon. This led Lyon to becoming the silk and textile manufacturing capitol even to this day. In Lyon, we will have a local guide to take us down Croix-Rousse hill, through the traboules to a silk printing workshop. After a day exploring of Lyon have dinner at one of the small family run Bistros, which line the “walking” streets of the old town.

We will depart Lyon on Saturday morning, stopping in Bourg St Maurice for lunch and arriving in Val d’Isere in the early Saturday afternoon. Our hotel is located in the center of the town, near the Grande Marnier Creperie which must be passed every afternoon as you ski back to the hotel. Stories of grand skiing adventures begin here to be carried on at our hotel. A local guide, a historian of the area will be available for guided backcountry skiing. On Saturday, weather permitting, Elizabeth, will guide us as we ski from Val d’Isere through the valley of powder to La Plagne. Our luggage will be transported for us to our new hotel at Plan Peisey. As we finish the long day of skiing, hopefully we will have time to start our happy hour at a small mountain hut before we take the 200 passenger gondola across the 2,000 ft deep valley to Plan Piesey. Our hotel is a true ski-in, ski-out hotel, very centrally located to ski either at La Plagne or Les Arcs.

All three ski areas feature off piste (backcountry skiing) and have miles of packed runs. If weather is poor, one can rent cross country skis and enjoy XC skiing in all areas.

The hotels are both family run hotels in which you will feel the pride of ownership and the wish that you experience the very best vacation possible while staying with them.
