During the fall, Meany Lodge becomes a hive of activity. The reasons are:
- 1) Fall MOFA classes - Usually crowed because everyone wants to get them out of the way ASAP
- 2) Work Parties - The committee gets the hill, tows and lodge ready for winter
- 3) Mushroom Weekend - A chance to experience nature's bounty
- 4) Fall Trips - some of our winter sports instructor do other things, this is one of them
MOFA classes give members of the Mountaineers and the general public hands-on experience in the
assessment and treatment of the injuries most commonly incurred in the Pacific Northwest. MOFA
classes (intensives) run Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. The addage of some MOFA instructors
is "Make the Mistake now and not when you really need to do it !!"
The work parties are a chance for anyone to help prepare the hill for the winter season. These
Mid-week work parties are run by a group, lovingly called "The Fossils". They are members of the
Meany committee that are retired, but still give a substantial amount of time to keep things up and
running. The weekend work parties are for the worker bees (and their families) to finish what was not
done during mid-week.
Mushroom weekend (which always sells out as soon as it is posted !!) is a joint effort between Meany
Lodge and the Nortwest Myological Society. This is a chance not only to learn about mushrooms, but to
put that knowledge to use and go pick, and then go
EAT. It is an event that must be experienced
to be believed.
