March is a wonderful time to visit two grand and unique areas in Austria. Dream of 2 weeks of skiing in powder snow and clear blue skies at 16 different resorts, 2 glaciers, rodelbahning (sledding) at night under the stars to a mountain hut, a hotel with 4 different saunas, a whirl pool, a swimming pool and lap pool and multi-course dinners with strolling musicians. It is a great trip for non-skiers wanting to see Europe with Mountaineers. Many sightseeing opportunities abound near each village.

This special holiday begins Thursday night flying on SAS from Seattle to Munich where we will recover from jet lag before traveling to the Alps. We will stay in a small hotel in the center of Munich for a day and a half. Munich, one of the great cities of the world is a cultural center, where the old and the new mix. There are museums, opera, ballet, open-air markets, wonderful architecture, great beer and wurst and excursions to the near by castles. One may depart earlier to enjoy even more of Munich.

Late Sunday morning we will depart for the small, intimate, Hotel Bellevue where Hans and Patti Hofer will be awaiting our arrival. They offer a warm, welcoming atmosphere for your first time in Austria. There are 2 main ski areas. Fulpmes has grand tree skiing and the Stubai Glacier which has runs for every ability including a beautiful GS, run down to the valley floor, a 3,800Ft vertical drop! A back country ski trip into the next valley is possible. For those not wanting to ski, the Elfer offers rodelbahning all day long, the promenade offers an 11Km stroll along the Ziller River or explore near by glass artisians villages.

The following Saturday we will leave Patti and Hans, stop in Innsbruck for lunch and visit the Swarvoski Museum before arriving at the Sport Hotel Theresa. This beautiful, family run hotel will cater to your every need. Skiing is only one of the many sport activities to choose from while you are here. Evening torch light walks to explore the history of the village, yoga, spinning, tennis, guided skiing, snow biking and rodelbahning with the Egger family, are just a few of the many activities and classes, the hotel provides for your pleasure. Dinner is an elegant 5-course dinner with strolling musicians and is served by the Egger family, our hosts and owners. We will not see Stephan Egger as he is also the head chef and director of the world renown cooking school at the hotel.

The Zillertal has an 11 Km. promenade along the Ziller River, which connects many of the villages of the valley. With coffee houses, serving the most delicious sweets, situated along the promenade and the Zillerbahn (RR) and post bus near by, rest stops are convenient and a non-walking return to the hotel is always possible, incase the weather changes abruptly! When you return from the slopes, a sport buffet and a large wellness center including 4 unique saunas, a swimming pool, whirlpool, exercise room, a quiet room and large lounge are at your disposal.

We depart on Saturday March 21, for Munich and fly home that same day.
